ZymoGentics Incorporated

We have had a continuous 20-year focus on the discovery and development of therapeutic proteins. In our early years, we utilized a "biology-first" approach where we evaluated the biology of a disease process and determined the proteins involved. More recently, we have taken a bioinformatics-driven "gene-first" discovery approach where we explore sequence databases in search of novel gene sequences that have properties suggestive of potential therapeutic utility. This gene-first approach requires the subsequent identification of biological activities associated with the newly discovered gene and the determination of potential therapeutic utility for the corresponding protein.

While a bioinformatics-driven strategy is still a relatively new approach for the development of human therapeutics, we believe that our discoveries to date demonstrate the value of this approach in our search for the drugs of tomorrow.
