We have synthesized a class of compounds with characteristics that make them especially attractive for the topical treatment of onychomycosis. In particular, AN2690 penetrates the nail 200 times better than the only U.S. Food and Drug Administration-approved topical onychomycosis treatment. AN2690 potently inhibits Trichophyton rubrum and Trichophyton mentagrophytes, which are the two major fungi that cause onychomycosis.
