Apex Medical Technologies, Inc. is a closely held corporation, founded in 1985 for the purpose of developing dip molded medical devices based on advanced polymers with major advantages relative to natural rubber latex. Apex's thin-wall, elastomeric polymer technology has now been refined to the point of being a day to day commercial reality. with as many as 12% of today's health care workers and patients susceptible to allergic reactions as a result of direct contact with natural rubber latex components, Apex is endeavoring to convert many dip molded latex components to its unique synthetic polymers.
Apex has developed a proprietary dip molding process which utilizes various synthetic elastomers in the fabrication of thin-wall components for the medical device industry. The technical foundation for Apex's expertise emanates from its experience with the dip molding of thermoplastic polyurethanes. Apex was the developer of the first (and currently only) commercialized male polyurethane contraceptive condom.
Apex has worked with many medical device companies from initial concept through final manufacturing for products such as catheter balloons, stent covers, probe covers, tissue removal sacks, etc. While polyurethane is generally the material of choice to replace natural rubber in medical devices, other materials have also been used by Apex to meet its clients' exacting demands. SIS, SBS, SEBS, and other thermoplastic elastomers have been utilized for applications where very high ultimate elongation values are required. Synthetic polyisoprene has been used for applications where extremely low creep values have been required.
Apex is a full service company occupying a modern facility located in San Diego. This facility includes cleanrooms, materials testing laboratories, administrative offices, dip molding equipment, and research and development laboratories. Apex is listed with the FDA as a medical device manufacturing establishment. Apex's management team includes chemical, biomedical, and mechanical engineers. Together we have more than 30 years experience in dip molding synthetic elastomeric components.
