BioIndustry AssociationThe BIA operates from central London facilities which are open daily and staffed by a permanent team. Our Chief Executive works with the BIA Secretariat to identify the needs of members, to agree with the Board a programme of activities to meet those needs, and to assist and implement the Board's strategic planning. BIA member companies range from the smallest start-up ventures to multinational pharmaceutical companies and the Board is also drawn from a wide range of companies.
The composition of the Board is currently ten Corporate Members and three Associate Members; the Corporate and Associate Members are each elected for a two year term, after which they are invited to put themselves forward for re-election. Election is either by postal ballot, online e-voting or a vote on the day of our AGM. The Chairman of the Board is drawn from, and voted for by, the Board members.
BIA (Scotland) is based in Midlothian and is run by the Director, Dr Barbara Blaney. BIA Scotland represents the needs of the Scottish bioscience sector. The team at BIA Scotland organise various activities to ensure that members are able to communicate their views on the sector to investors, Scottish Enterprise and the Scottish Executive and Scottish Parliament.
