BioTransplant Incorporated, based in Charlestown, Massachusetts, is developing therapeutics and systems around its unique and proprietary technology to re-educate the body's immune system to accept transplanted cells, tissues and organs by recognizing them as “self”. This technology is designed to overcome the serious side effects associated with organ transplantation or stem cell transplantation to treat cancer and other life threatening diseases.
Based on this approach, the company is developing a portfolio of products designed to treat a range of medical conditions, including organ and tissue transplantation and autoimmune diseases, for which current therapies are inadequate. ImmunoCognance-based therapies are also expected to increase the therapeutic benefit of bone marrow transplants used to treat cancer patients.
