Koninklijke Brill NV (Brill), founded in 1683, listed on Euronext Amsterdam NV is a long-standing, but extremely up-to-date publishing house with a strong international focus. The company’s head office is in Leiden (The Netherlands) and a branch office in Boston, Massachusetts (USA). Brill employs around 120 highly educated staff members.
Brill’s publication program focuses on the Humanities and Social Science (imprint BRILL), International Law (imprint Martinus Nijhoff Publishers), and selected areas in Science (imprint VSP). Our imprint IDC presents an extensive catalogue of primary sources and rare collections. The predominantly English-language publications consist primarily of book series, annuals, atlases, handbooks, encyclopaedias, journals, and microform collections. In principle our publications will be available in print and electronic formats.

Brill partners with booksellers, agents and library suppliers around the world to reach our markets. Our principal markets are Western Europe, the United States and Japan. The majority of the customers are academic institutions and libraries. Increasingly our publications find their way through online booksellers, not only reaching existing customers but new audiences as well.

Brill’s main mission is to serve its authors and customers to the best of its abilities, and all its activities are directed to that goal. Other activities, like type-setting, printing & binding, data-processing, online hosting, and distribution are outsourced to carefully selected and trusted specialist vendors. New technology helps Brill to improve the usefulness and accessibility of its products, thus supporting Brill’s mission as a service provider to its authors and customers.
