SurModics is a leading provider of surface modification and drug delivery solutions for the health care industry. One of SurModics’ core technology platforms is its patented drug-delivery polymer matrix technology which can be applied to medical devices to deliver pharmaceutical agents from the surface of a device to a targeted area of the body, often enabling sustained release of the pharmaceutical agents. For example, SurModics' Bravo™ drug delivery polymer matrix is used in the first-to-market drug-eluting coronary stent, and is being used in the I-vation™ Intravitreal Implant. SurModics has other drug delivery polymers as well. Another core surface-modification technology platform is its patented PhotoLink® process which helps modify and enhance the surface characteristics of medical devices and biomedical applications improving performance, and in some cases, enabling the development of new products. SurModics also produces stabilization products used by manufacturers of immunoassay diagnostic tests to improve performance, stability, and shelf life.
