Heartlab
Download PDF Members: Like most successful companies, Heartlab began as a solution to a problem. In the late 1980’s, Robert Petrocelli, an engineer with expertise in real-time signal and image processing, started working with Jonathan Elion, M.D., a cardiologist at Miriam Hospital in Providence, Rhode Island, to devise a way to eliminate costly, inefficient cine film used in the cath lab to capture images of the heart’s coronary arteries. What they called their “search for the holy grail” was the quest to replace X-ray film with inexpensive digital media that delivered superior performance. They knew their pursuit would open the doors for a digital revolution in the practice of cardiology.
