Dr.Philip L. Leggett

Dr. Leggett was born in Houston, Texas and graduated from Strake Jesuit High School in 1971. He then attended The University of Texas at Austin and obtained a B.A. degree and was elected to membership in Phi Beta Kappa upon graduation. Dr. Leggett then went to medical school at The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, Texas graduated in 1980 and married his wife, Janet. He went to New Orleans, Louisiana and completed a five year residency in General Surgery at Alton Ochsner Foundation and completed his training as Chief Surgical Resident in 1985. Dr. Leggett and his wife had three children while in New Orleans, Philip II, Lauren and Lindsey.The family moved to Houston, Texas in 1985 and Dr. Leggett went into the private practice of General Surgery. He became a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and International College of Surgeons in 1986, and was Board Certified in Surgery the same year. Subsequently, Dr. Leggett became interested in Laparoendoscopic Surgery. He became one of the pioneers of laparoscopy in Houston, Texas and traveled both domestically and abroad to learn techniques started here and Europe.
As Dr. Leggett became well known for his laparoscopic abilities, he was asked to travel around the United States, South America, Australia and Africa to lecture and to do surgical laparoscopy in front of hundreds of physicians to demonstrate his techniques. He then was given clinical appointments as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery at both The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston and The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston.
