European Molecular Biology Organization
Download detailed PDF Members: The European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) promotes bioscience in Europe through targeted programmes and activities. Established in 1964, the founders of EMBO showed an incredible vision when they established the organisation. They were true motors of change, even revolutionaries, who raised biological research to a European level while adhering to the highest standards of scientific excellence. Keeping faith with their vision, their principles and standards are a guide to our activities today. The EMBO membership includes some of the leading researchers in Europe and represents a highly dynamic cross-section of the life sciences community. The organization elects new members annually on the basis of proven excellence in research. Currently there are 1100 EMBO elected members in Europe and over 60 associate members globally. More than 38 members have been awarded the Nobel Prize and others have strong links with industry. Members provide invaluable input to the organisation's work to create a permanent forum through which the knowledge, experience and people necessary for collaborations can crystallize.EMBO employs a team of specialised staff with the academic and professional profile to identify solutions and mobilize funds for the varied requirements within all sectors of EMBO’s work. To complement our expertise, we establish strong cooperations with qualified and reliable partners which often act as a catalyst for lasting international collaborations. These cooperations include governments, National Commissions, Parliamentarians and International Organizations. Among them we also find the media, schools, cultural and scientific institutions, private-sector partners and related institutions dispersed throughout Europe and beyond.
