EPPOSI
Download detailed PDF Members: EPPOSI is health care today has become increasingly complex. Modern biotechnology, combined with novel device development and progress in information technology, is delivering an ever-wider range of diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic products, services and methods.New treatment avenues such as gene or cell therapy are opening up, and molecular biology is giving insights into the underlying processes of ever-increasing numbers of debilitating or fatal diseases. At the same time the pressures on health services have never been greater. Budgetary constraints, rationing, the difficulty of incorporating new knowledge into professional practice and the sometimes conflicting interests of patients, payment providers and the wider society all need to be factored into the health care equation. In parallel, patients and their support organisations are playing an increasingly visible and important role in the health care policy process. Putting a human face on health care - emphasising that the issue is really about people and their health and well being, not just about budgets or profits - as well as seeking transparency and beneficial application of new knowledge and the resulting products, are key concerns. As patient needs and views are key in the European health care debate, they also play an important role when setting the agenda and priorities for EPPOSI. EPPOSI is issue led and aims to provide agreed strategies on European policy matters that can be endorsed by patients, scientists, the medical community and industry.
