Calypte Biomedical Corporation is dedicated to developing and marketing in vitro testing algorithms for improved diagnosis of HIV infection, STDs, and other chronic diseases. Calypte is a pioneer in the development of non-blood assays for HIV antibody determination, and is the first and only company to achieve USFDA approval of a urine-based HIV-1 antibody screening test and supplemental Western Blot. Following the success of the Calypte urine-based HIV-1 antibody testing algorithm used in laboratories, Calypte is now commercializing Aware™ rapid tests for the determination of HIV 1/2 antibodies in blood, urine, and oral fluid. Calypte has developed these three 20-minute tests to offer unrivalled testing flexibility in a non-laboratory setting. Realizing that no single approach to HIV testing will meet the needs of every testing environment, Calypte has developed three different testing solutions, at least one of which should be well suited to a given testing and counseling setting.
