A/F Protein is developing the commercial potential of antifreeze proteins, and through its Aqua Bounty Farms division, AquAdvantage fish, genetically modified for rapid growth.

Antifreeze proteins are naturally occuring compounds found in certain cold-water fish, plants and insects that supress or modify ice crystal formation, preventing the disruption of cell membranes at cold or freezing temperatures. The effectiveness of purified antifreeze proteins in preserving the viability of biological materials at cold or freezing temperatures and capacity to inhibit ice crystal formation give rise to potential applications in medical, food, and cosmetic products.



The Company's AquAdvantage salmon and other finfish have been demonstrated to grow 400% to 600% more rapidly than currently available farm raised fish of the same species and hence represent a revolutionary development for aquaculture.
