Twenty-five years ago the first issue of Gambit was published. Today, 40,000 papers are distributed every week to over 350 locations throughout the metro New Orleans area. The locally owned newspaper is one of the most successful weeklies in the country, and the recipient of numerous annual awards for editorial and design achievement.Gambit Weekly received sixteen awards at the 47th Annual Press Club of New Orleans ceremony (including four first-place honors and the Alex Waller Memorial Award). Eighteen Louisiana Press Association Awards (including seven first-place honors) were received in the most recent state-wide competition. At the annual Alternative Newsweekly Awards, recognizing excellence in print media from across the nation, Gambit Weekly received certificates for cover design and food criticism.
