Brachytherapy is an advanced cancer treatment. The word "brachy" is Greek for "close by" and refers to placing radioactive seeds or sources directly in the tumor. This procedure gives physicians and patients the important advantage of applying a higher dose of radiation directly to the tumor while sparing healthy tissue and surrounding organs. Brachytherapy is a localized, precise, radiation treatment and is a very powerful anti-cancer tool.
