Gentra Systems, Inc. is a privately held biotechnology corporation that was founded in 1988. Focused solely on nucleic acid purification, Gentra develops and markets manual and automated nucleic acid purification products that address the need for high quality nucleic acid, ease of use and increased throughput for clinical and clinical research laboratories.
When Dr. Ruth Shuman founded Gentra, purifying nucleic acids was a slow, tedious process that mixed drudgery with toxicity: a frustrating means to an end. The coming molecular age needed new methods that were convenient, fast, reliable and non-toxic. Recognizing this need, Gentra Systems has focused solely on nucleic acid purification—paving the way for molecular technologies in clinical and clinical research applications.
The Puregene® DNA Purification Kit was the first product developed and marketed by Gentra Systems. Introduced in 1991, it has set the standard for purifying archival quality DNA with exceptional yields. The Puregene kit is the only purification product supported by real time ongoing stability studies, which have now passed the 11-year mark.
Gentra has developed and markets other DNA and RNA purification products including Generation®, Purescript® , Autopure ls® and its newest product, Versagene™ RNA, which is being launched in December 2003. Generation DNA Purification Kits provide rapid and reliable DNA purification for small samples and are available in a variety of formats – Capture Column, Capture Plate, Capture Disk and Capture Card. The Purescript kit provides a non-toxic method for purifying RNA in a scalable, simple-to-use format. The Autopure ls instrument has revolutionized the way many high-throughput laboratories are processing samples, by purifying Puregene-quality DNA from whole blood samples of up to 10 ml. Additional sample types include packed cells and buffy coats, cultured cells, cell lysates and buccal cells. Gentra Systems' newest product, Versagene RNA is a simple, yet effective, technology for isolating pure RNA from animal tissues, cultured cells or whole blood, and comes in a convenient easy-to-use format
