The aim of the company then was the manufacture of intermediate products for the pharmaceutical industry, mainly the production of BSA (Bovine Serum Albumin).The epidemic emergence of BSE (Bovine Spongiphorme Enzephalopathy) in Great Britain threatened the market for bovine products of European origin. The worldwide distribution net for HÄMOSAN products – ranging from Australia and Japan to California and most parts of Europe - had become useless. This situation forced the company to accept the challenge and invest in scientific approaches to the TSE (Transmissible Spongiphorme Encephalopathies) problem
