The Turku Employment Office focuses on pioneer fields
Within the recruiting project of the Turku Employment Office, the general term ‘pioneer fields’ is used for fields of business utilising modern technology, particularly in ICT and life sciences. In the Turku region, in particular, major investments have lifted scientific research in the regional pioneer fields to the national forefront.
The significance of the pioneer fields is predicted to see continuous growth. In order to be able to meet future challenges in the labour market, the Turku Employment Office has focused on the development of the functionality of the labour market for pioneer fields. This aim specifically involves assuming the majority of the responsibility for ensuring an adequate supply of professionally-skilled employees. The aim also strives to ensure that active measures are taken to avoid a labour shortage as the baby boom generation moves into retirement. As one concrete step towards this aim, the Employment Office created a recruiting site for the pioneer fields called ‘HighTechWay’. Initiated in spring 2003, this site is intended to create projects for national and international recruiting and to promote quality further training.
