The public is increasingly anxious about the long term effects of exposure to chemical as well as the acute threat from chemical terrorism.In the drive for sustainable communities, the undoubted benefits to society of chemicals in manufacturing, industry, agriculture, food presentation, housing, products etc have to be balanced by the potential for harm.The conference This conference will focus on national and international developments in identifying the key threats to the health of the public, covering “Alert and Response” systems, environmental public health tracking of hazards, exposures and health effects, engaging with the public, assessing risk and giving advice. The conference will highlight current knowledge and gaps and will make challenging proposals for research and for developing interventions and strategies for sustainable communities, including what the public health workforce should look like in the 21st century.This meeting will be of interest to policy makers, environmental health and public health professionals, toxicologists as well as those professionals in allied agencies and organisations.
