Cell Pathways is a pharmaceutical company focused on the research, development and commercialization of products to prevent cancer and to treat cancer. Cell Pathways' technology may also prove to have applicability beyond the field of cancer.Cell Pathways' technology is based upon its discovery of a novel mechanism which the Company believes, based on its research, can be targeted to induce selective apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in precancerous and cancerous cells without affecting normal cells. Cell Pathways has created a new class of selective apoptotic anti-neoplastic drugs ("SAANDS") and has synthesized over 500 new chemical compounds in this new class. In screening assays, over 200 of these new compounds display significantly greater apoptotic potency than Cell Pathways lead drug candidate, PREVATAC(TM) exisulind.
