The Center of Molecular Immunology (CIM) is a Cuban Biotechnological Institution devoted to basic research, product development and production of mammalian cell culture products such as monoclonal antibodies and recombinant proteins. CIM’s research goals focus on cancer and immune system related disorders.
The 15 000 m2 two floor facility has a cGMP production area designed for maximum product protection. Hollow fiber and stirred tank fermenters are used in upstream production. The facility has an annual production capacity of several kilograms of the purified product.
Our long range R&D activities enable us to innovate and create intellectual property for the development of new products. These include antibody engineering, glycobiology, computer assisted molecular modeling and idiotipic regulation of the immune system. Basic research projects are focused on immunotherapy of
autoimmune diseases and cancer especially the development of cancer vaccines.
Different products obtained and produced at CIM are currently distributed in Cuba and abroad by CIMAB S.A., CIM’s exclusive representative. These include products for the treatment of patients with organ transplant rejection and anemia and for tumor imaging. Additionally CIMAB S.A. is engaged in establishing corporate alliances for the joint development of CIM’s pipeline of projects in the fields of:autoimmune diseases such as Psoriasis and Rheumatoid arthritis;Tumor imaging;Cancer therapy by radioimmunotherapy, passive immunotherapy and active immunotherapy based on molecular and anti idiotipic vaccines.
