Founded in 1998 as a joint venture between leading scientists from the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology and BASF AG, metanomics today is a member of the international BASF Plant Science platform.metanomics is “powered” by an international and dedicated staff of about 90 scientists, engineers and technical personnel who cooperate across the company’s five Technical Centers. Their areas of expertise span molecular biology, analytical chemistry, informatics, bioinformatics and physiology.
The company’s lean Management Team is headed up by Dr. Arno J. Krotzky, CEO, and includes Dr. Richard Trethewey, CSO as well as the Leaders of the company’s Technical Centers.
Initial funding of about 25 Mio. € over the first 5 years was provided by BASF Plant Science. The company also received a significant grant from the German Government in the start-up phase. metanomics has invested more than 18 Mio. € in its technology platform, which by now has become the largest and most effective metabolic research facility worldwide.
In addition to its own research projects, metanomics has been successfully conducting medium to large sized research projects for partners for several years. The company has strategic alliances and cooperations with international leaders in analytical technology, bioinformatics and other competence centers.
