Osteometer MediTech, Inc

Osteometer A/S was founded in 1989 by Dr. Claus Christiansen and Dr. Bente Juel Riis on the basis of 25 years of research within osteoporosis. For more than two decades Dr. Claus Christiansen has been involved in internationally recognized research on the problems of the postmenopausal woman. He has specialized in the disease of brittle bones (osteoporosis) and bone diseases in general. The main goal of the company was to develop, manufacture and market diagnostic tools with a target audience of the postmenopausal woman, especially emphasizing the diagnostic procedures of bone metabolic diseases. In 1992, Osteometer A/S expanded its activities by introducing biochemical kits for the determination of bone turnover. This unique feature is incorporated in the software for the DTX-200 DexaCare® and DexaCare® G4 bone densitometers, providing assessment of the annual bone loss and thereby future risk prediction for developing osteoporosis (software feature currently not available in the USA).
Three years later, Osteometer separated into two companies, Osteometer MediTech A/S, specializing in office based scanners and densitometers for diagnosis of osteoporosis, and Osteometer BioTech A/S, specializing in biochemical markers of bone and cartilage metabolism.
In the spring of 2002, Osteometer BioTech A/S merged with Osteopro A/S. The diagnostic activities of the former Osteometer BioTech A/S continue as Nordic Bioscience Diagnostics A/S
