OVER A CENTURY AGO
In 1895, when waterborne diseases like typhoid and cholera still exacted a dreadful toll across America, two sanitary engineers - Allen Hazen and Alfred Noyes - opened a consulting practice in Boston to solve "problems in water supply, sewerage and sewage disposal." Over a hundred years later, Malcolm Pirnie, Inc., the descendant of that fledgling firm, continues the tradition of environmental problem-solving and client service into its second century.
In 1911, fresh from Harvard College, Malcolm Pirnie Sr. joined the staff, and soon became a principal in the partnership. After various transitions in partners and management, in a seamless continuation of practices and principles, the firm evolved to become Malcolm Pirnie Civil Engineer, in 1930.
