Rincon Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a San Diego based biopharmaceuticals company focused on the novel use of eukaryotic algae as a production system for recombinant proteins, especially monoclonal antibodies.Monoclonal antibodies are the fastest growing class of molecules in drug development. However, the capital requirements, production costs, and time constraints in developing and producing monoclonal antibodies using present technologies have resulted in very high cost of goods, risky capital investment decision making, and an uncertain supply in manufacturing capacity – all of which present a large barrier to entry for drug development. Furthermore, the federal government and managed healthcare organizations have become increasingly concerned with the cost of new therapies. By overcoming the shortcomings inherent in current recombinant protein production technologies, an enormous opportunity exists to dramatically reduce the cost of infrastructure and protein production. In so doing, Rincon will significantly broaden access to monoclonal antibody development as well as develop proprietary new products through a careful selection of opportunities (both partnered and in-house) that are uniquely enabled by our technology.
