Steven W. Mayo, PD, CCRA is the founder and president of Emissary International, LLC, a provider of clinical trial management services in North America and Europe. Steve holds a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and subsequently trained as an MBA. After starting his career as a community pharmacist, he entered the pharmaceutical industry in 1987 as a clinical research associate (CRA) and was quickly promoted to a management position with international responsibilities. During this time, Steve was the U.S. project manager for the company's hypertension program and was also instrumental in the development of new drugs for congestive heart failure, obesity, diabetes, burns, pain, and hypothyroidism.In 1992, Steve helped establish a contract research organization in Austin, Texas. In this role, he helped the company grow by over 400% over a two year period while directing the clinical trial management operation.After this CRO was sold, he helped a local inventor create an agricultural chemical company, managing the financial, sales, and regulatory aspects of the new start-up. Steve obtained regulatory approval and then helped establish sales teams to market the company's organic insecticide throughout eight southern states. Afterwards, Steve founded Emissary in 1995 and now manages an international team of clinical trial professionals involved in clinical study monitoring, project management, clinical data management, regulatory affairs, and medical writing. Under his guidance, Emissary has remained profitable each year while rapidly growing into an internationally respected operation, ranking among the top contract research organizations in the world.
