The story of Simon-Carves begins in the reign of Queen Victoria when the foundations were being laid for the highly technical world of today.Henry Simon came to England in 1860 as a refugee from Prussian oppression and within a few years had established himself as a consulting engineer in Manchester. He then teamed up with Francois Carvès, a distinguished French coke oven engineer, to pioneer the by-product coke oven. The partnership led to the founding of Simon- Carves in 1880. and by 1882 the first British by-product coke ovens has been built and installed .By the turn of the last century Simon-Carves had become a leading British company in its field, and when a strong demand for sulphuric acid arose during World War I a chemical plant department was formed to cater for this need
