Since November 2001 the Company has been funded by BankInvest Bio Venture part of BankInvest A/S, which is a leading independent Nordic asset manager of mutual funds and venture capital and discretionary mandates for institutional clients. SmartBead’s mission is to provide multiplexed protein assay solutions, which will enable substantial productivity gains in the drug development and diagnostics markets leading to improved public health. SmartBead has built a strong team with extensive technical and commercial experience gained in high technology and from the life sciences, in R & D and clinical environments. SmartBead will achieve its mission by exploiting technologies originally developed in collaboration with the world renowned Cavendish Laboratory and Biochemistry Department at the University of Cambridge, UK. SmartBead’s powerful multiplexing solution, UltraPlex™, improves the speed, efficiency and cost of diagnostic testing and drug development. UltraPlex™ takes well-established technologies from the microelectronics industry and combines them with existing bioassay technologies to provide scientists and physicians with the tagging and tracking benefits of barcodes at a microscopic level.Through strong partnerships with leading life science companies, such as bioMérieux and PerkinElmer, SmartBead offer UltraPlex™ as a fully automated system with multiplexed kits ready for use, liquid handling and sample preparation, diagnostic analysis and generation of comprehensive results in a simple to read report format.
SmartBead has a strong Intellectual Property Rights portfolio with granted patents and trade marks on our core proprietary technology. Additional patent rights, which further strengthen SmartBead’s position, have been licensed from 3DMS, a Generics Group company.
