Sociometrics Corporation is a for-profit research and development firm specializing in social science research applications. It was established in 1983 as a corporation in the State of California. The Founder and President of Sociometrics is Josefina J. Card, Ph.D. Sociometrics' mission is to produce research-based products and services for a variety of target audiences:Sociometrics' data archives currently house exemplary data and documentation from almost 350 leading studies--selected by expert advisory panels--in nine topically-focused areas: teen sexuality and pregnancy, the American family, social gerontology, disability, maternal drug abuse, HIV/AIDS, contextual influences on behavior, child well-being, and complementary and alternative medicine. These archives facilitate data sharing among social scientists and facilitate public access to the best data capable of illuminating contemporary social issues (http://www.socio.com/data.htm); Archive data are disseminated in two formats: On CD-ROM with Sociometrics' proprietary search and retrieval, and data extracting/subsetting capabilities; and in downloadable format, with SPSS portable system files in addition to Sociometrics' standard file set (raw data, SPSS and SAS batch syntax programs, data dictionary, frequencies, user guide, and accompanying documentation). Sociometrics' program archives comprise replication kits for several dozen intervention programs that have been shown to be effective in preventing teen pregnancy and STD/HIV/AIDS, adult HIV/AIDS, and youth substance abuse. These archives facilitate cost-effective replication of programs that have the potential of reducing teen pregnancy, HIV/AIDS or youth substance abuse, prevent wasted effort spent reinventing the wheel, and encourage ongoing replication and scientific evaluation of included programs to ascertain the robustness of the initial finding of effectiveness across different study populations.
