SunGene's research is centered on the discovery of genes with the aim of producing valuable traits in genetically optimized plants. SunGene was founded in 1998 as a joint venture of BASF Plant Science, the Institute of Plant Genetics and Crop Plant Research (IPK), Dr. Karin Herbers and Prof. Dr. Uwe Sonnewald. SunGene, today owned by BASF Plant Science, has established itself as one of the largest plant biotechnology companies in Germany with more than 60 highly qualified employees. The company is located on the Biotech Campus in Gatersleben
