Thacker – Grigsby Telephone Company Inc
Download detailed PDF Members: The Thackers have been involved in the telephone business since early in 1919 when the late Robert Thacker (uncle of the present manager) bought a section of telephone line from Southern Bell Telephone & Telegraph Company. The line was approximately fifteen miles long and furnished only two telephones. Bob Thacker kept that line in operation until 1936 when he sold it to his brother William Thacker for $800.00. At the time of this sale there were nine telephones on the system.During the following few years the line was improved. The old grounded circuit was made into a two-wire circuit from Leburn to Lackey; one other circuit added between Leburn and Pippa Passes and two new circuits added between Leburn and Hindman.
