Vaxon Biotech, founded in early 2004 and based in Evry Genopole - France, is a product-driven biopharmaceutical company focusing on the discovery and development of innovative vaccines for the treatment of malignancies, including prostate, lung, breast and colon cancer.
The company is based on an original discovery made by Dr. Kostas Kosmatopoulos and his team: optimized cryptic peptides.
Vaxon Biotech's vaccines are intended to treat existing cancers (therapeutic vaccines) by stimulating the immune system to recognize and attack human cancer cells without harming normal cells. These vaccines target antigens, overexpressed in tumor cells but present in very low quantities in normal cells.
The first two products under development, Vx-001 and Vx-006, are novel treatments for solid tumors :
- Vx-001 achieved phase I clinical trial Q3-2004 and showed good tolerance and immune response ; Vx-001 should enter controlled phase II Q3 2006, in non small cell lung cancer, and in phase IIb Q4 2006, in hepatocellular cancer.
- Vx-006 should enter phase I/II clinical development early 2007, starting with prostate cancer.
Vaxon Biotech R&D expertise provides collaborative opportunities ranging from licensing options of proprietary optimized cryptic peptides to joint clinical development of therapeutic vaccine products.
