AMS

AMS was founded in 1972 by Robert Buuck, Gerald Timm, Ph.D., William Bradley, M.D. and F. Brantley Scott, M.D. That year, Dr. Scott implanted the first urinary sphincter for incontinence.
Company engineers then developed the first inflatable penile prosthesis for erectile dysfunction. In its early days, AMS also built the foundation for its strong physician relationships by developing surgical seminars and practice management programs.

AMS was acquired by Pfizer Inc. in 1985 and continued adding to its portfolio of solutions, then focusing on men's pelvic health. In September 1998, a group of investors led by E.M. Warburg, Pincus & Co., LLC, acquired AMS from Pfizer.
