Cytopia aims to identify new candidate therapeutics (drug leads) for asthma and a range of inflammatory diseases. Many current drugs have significant side effects such as gastric upsets and ulcers and Cytopia's technology has the potential to discover more specific drugs without these side effects.

Cytopia has an exclusive, worldwide royalty-free license to commercially exploit technology developed by its Research Director, Dr Andrew Wilks, whilst at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne.



Licensed patents give Cytopia sole right to commercially exploit several genes and protein (known as JAK kinases) which play a crucial role in controlling the inflammatory process, for example in rheumatoid arthritis.



Cytopia is developing technology which allows large chemical collections to be tested for their ability to inhibit the activity of the patented proteins. Chemicals which are specifically active may be able to prevent certain inflammatory diseases.
