YM BioSciences is a product development company. Our focus is to advance cancer products along the regulatory and clinical pathways towards commercial approval. YMB does not conduct basic research; rather, our product portfolio is established through a process of careful, rational selection of therapeutics produced in research institutions around the globe. We have one of the broadest oncology portfolios in North America, diversified across technologies, targets and stages of development, to avoid reliance on a single product or platform. YMB is cancer focused. Our current products target solid tumours, which comprise most common types of cancer, and cancer pain. Our current clinical emphasis is on metastatic breast cancer, advanced prostate cancer, unresectable head & neck cancer, specific types of brain tumours, and cancer pain. The large markets for cancer products, combined with typically lower-cost and rapid Phase I and II clinical trials, make this a compelling area on which to focus from a business perspective. YMB currently has four different anti-cancer compounds in clinical development, including tesmilifene, which has completed a 305-patient Phase III clinical trial with positive results. Our business model is to eventually co-develop or partner with pharmaceutical multinationals to manufacture and market our products and offset the cost of pivotal trials. We believe this balanced approach provides the best risk/reward profile for our shareholders.
