ZLB Behring is one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies specializing in the manufacture of plasma products. Its comprehensive line of therapies include products for the treatment of hemophilia and other coagulation disorders, immunoglobulins for the prevention and treatment of immune disorders, treatments that inhibit the formation of blood clots, wound-healing agents used during major surgical procedures, and plasma expanders for the treatment of a variety of conditions such as shock, burns and circulatory disorders. Additionally, ZLB Behring operates one of the world’s largest, fully-owned plasma collection networks.Both ZLB Behring and its Australian parent company CSL can look back on a long history of saving lives. CSL was set up in 1916, with the aim of supplying the population of Australia and New Zealand with vaccines.Three major companies form what is now known as ZLB Behring: ZLB, Behringwerke, and Armour. ZLB had been set up in 1949 as a department of the Swiss Red Cross. In 1904, Emil von Behring created Behringwerke in Marburg, Germany, to produce sera and vaccines to cure infectious diseases. In 1885, Armour Pharmaceutical Company began to produce pepsin, an enzyme aiding digestion. 1885 Armour Pharmaceutical produces Pepsin, an enzyme to aid digestion.
