IRIDEX Corporation is a worldwide leader in developing, manufacturing, marketing and selling innovative and cost-effective medical laser systems. IRIDEX was founded in 1989 as IRIS Medical Instruments, Inc. and went public as IRIDEX Corporation (NASDAQ/NMS: IRIX) in 1996. (The brand name IRIS Medical is still maintained in ophthalmology). IRIDEX products are sold in the U.S. through a direct sales force and internationally through a network of independent distributors in over 100 countries worldwide. IRIDEX completed ISO 13485 - 1996 certification in February 2003. Ophthalmology For well over a decade IRIDEX has supported research, collaborated with physicians, and developed products to perform laser therapy for the treatment of eye diseases. IRIS Medical® laser products treat a variety of eye diseases, including the three leading causes of irreversible blindness: age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and glaucoma. The family of products include green and infrared lasers with a wide range of compatible delivery devices including single use disposable probes. Dermatology The dermatology laser products have been used since 1996 by dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and cosmetic physicians to perform a variety of cosmetic procedures. Laser systems and accessories are used to treat vascular, pigmented, and cutaneous lesions as well as perform laser facial treatments.
