Entropin, Inc. (NASDAQ: ETOP) is a specialty pharmaceutical development company focused on commercializing Esterom®, a revolutionary new topical drug with the potential to replace other current therapeutics for treating impaired physical function resulting from painful soft tissue injuries and diseases -- such as tendonitis, bursitis and lower back sprain. The Esterom® market is currently served by products that may provide pain relief, but often do not improve range of motion (ROM); nonetheless, the market for prescription drugs is estimated to be $4.8 billion per year. The Company has completed Phase II clinical trials with Esterom®, which demonstrated effectiveness in improving ROM associated with impaired shoulder function and acute lower back sprain. In addition, the Company completed a large multi-center clinical study of Esterom® solution in late 2000, which confirmed the safety of Esterom® and demonstrated a dose response in treated patients. Subsequently, Entropin used data from that study to design its upcoming clinical trial of Esterom®, which began late in September 2001. The Company expects to complete this 150 patient clinical trial by mid-2002. The Company is currently sponsoring studies to determine mechanism of action and to characterize Esterom®'s active ingredients. Entropin is also completing various other studies related to the New Drug Application (NDA) that it plans to submit to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in early 2004 seeking approval of Esterom® for the treatment of painful soft tissue injuries and diseases.
