Epitope, Inc. develops and markets oral specimen collection kits and related diagnostic tests primarily for the detection of the Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), the cause of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS), and for the detection of other medical conditions and analytes, including drugs of abuse. Epitope's lead product, the patented OraSure(R) collection device, is used as part of an oral specimen diagnostic system. The Company markets the device in the United States and certain foreign countries for use in screening life insurance applicants and for public health use, and plans to begin marketing for drugs of abuse testing in 1999.
