Forbes currently focuses its product development efforts on plant sterols derived from pulping and agricultural by-products. Plant Sterols have long been known for their cholesterol-lowering properties. Forbes believes it has made important technological advances in these areas and offers significant commercial opportunities in three distinct markets:
Functional Foods: Phytrol™ is a cholesterol-lowering ingredient for use in functional foods and, potentially, in dietary supplements and over-the-counter products.
Prescription Pharmaceuticals: Forbes is developing FM-VP4, a prescription therapeutic, for the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease through the reduction of cholesterol and, potentially, atherosclerotic plaque.
Pharmaceutical Steroids: Forbes has developed technology to produce steroid intermediates Androstenedione (AD) and Androstadienedione (ADD) which are used in the manufacture of various steroid-based pharmaceutical products such as birth control pills and anti-inflammatories.

Forbes Has a Joint venture with Chusei (USA) Inc. of Pasadena, Texas to form Phyto-Source LP, a Texas Limited Partnership. Through this joint venture, Forbes and Chusei are building one of the worlds largest dedicated wood sterol manufacturing plants with and annuall capacity of 1,000 metric tonnes. Forbes also has entered into a Manufacturing Agreement with FERMIC, S.A. DE C.V. in Mexico City to produce fine chemical intermediates Androstenedione (AD) and Androstadienedione (ADD) on the Company's behalf for sale in international markets.
