MedImmune is focused on using advances in immunology and other biological sciences to develop important new products that address significant medical needs in areas such as infectious diseases, transplantation medicine, autoimmune diseases and cancer. In 1998, the Company launched Synagis (palivizumab) in the United States for preventing respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) in high-risk pediatric patients. Synagis is the first monoclonal antibody approved for an infectious disease and has become an important new pediatric product for the prevention of RSV, the leading cause of pneumonia and bronchiolitis in infants and children. The Company also markets CytoGam (Cytomegalovirus Immune Globulin Intravenous (Human), CMV-IGIV) and RespiGam (Respiratory Syncytial Virus
