Accredo Health, Incorporated ("Accredo") is a Memphis-based parent organization for a family of companies providing specialized contract pharmacy and related services beneficial to patients with certain costly, chronic diseases. Through its affiliated companies, Hemophilia Health Services, Inc., Nova Factor, Inc., and Sunrise Health Management, Inc., Accredo has designed its specialty services to focus primarily on bio-pharmaceuticals that:
are used on a recurring basis to treat chronic and potentially life threatening diseases;
are expensive, with an annual therapy cost as high as $200,000 per patient; and
require temperature control or other specialized handling as part of their distribution process.
Licensed as retail pharmacies, Accredo's subsidiaries ship most of their medications, overnight, in a refrigerated, confidential container, mainly to patients' homes or physicians' offices, where these medications are reconstituted and injected.
Currently, Accredo provides services that address the needs of patients with the following diseases; growth hormone deficiency, a pituitary disorder that causes short stature; Gaucher Disease, a hereditary liver enzyme deficiency; hemophilia, a hereditary bleeding disorder; multiple sclerosis, a debilitating disease of the central nervous system; Crohn's Disease, a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the gastrointestinal tract; respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a respiratory infection common among high risk infants; rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic disease characterized by inflammation and destruction of the joints; immune deficiencies, a diverse group of disorders affecting the immune system; and, pulmonary arterial hypertension, a life threatening disorder that can severely compromise the function of the lungs and heart.
