SignalGene IncorporatedMissionTo be a leader in the application of genome-based information and technologies for the improved diagnosis and treatment of major human diseases.
Corporate Profile
SignalGene Inc. is a Montreal-based, publicly traded company (SGI: Montreal and Toronto Stock Exchange) dedicated to improving human health care through the application of scientific breakthroughs in human genetic research.
Created in 1996 as Algène Biotechnologies Corporation, SignalGene is strengthening its position by combining the expertise of research collaborators with enabling technologies, management depth and commercial focus. The Company pursues human genomics research for the development of high value products and services that lead to major improvement in the practice of medicine.
SignalGene’s research activities focus on the identification of human genes and genes variants, which predict individual susceptibility to diseases and response to therapeutic drugs. This research also identifies novel targets for drug discovery.
Current research programs focus on five important human disorders, namely osteoporosis, breast cancer, psoriasis, obesity and Alzheimer’s disease; and involve collaborations with leading biomedical and clinical scientists in Quebec university hospitals.
The Company’s drug discovery strategy is based on a portfolio of proprietary nuclear receptor variants that are validated as potential drug targets for major human diseases.
Strategies for Sustainable Growth and Value Generation
To achieve its corporate objectives, SignalGene works with strategic partners to accelerate its own internal discovery programs and to generate revenue through license fees, milestone payments and future royalties. SignalGene also leverages its technologies and expertise to perform contract research to support its clients’ discovery programs.
SignalGene aims to generate a strong expanding revenue stream by the marketing of genotyping services with a special focus on pharmacogenomics and genetic profiling assays.
Its evolving portfolio of proprietary genetic markers and drug targets for major human diseases is the foundation of SignalGene’s ultimate objective, which is to develop and market diagnostic and therapeutic products.
Services
SignalGene offers pharmaceutical and biotech companies a broad range of services.
Integrated Genomics Platforms
? Clinical cohorts: ethical recruitment of patients and collection of genomic samples and clinical data
? Gene discovery: positional cloning, allele association
? Target validation: transgenic mice models, functional assays
? Bioinformatics: database mining, statistical data analysis
Genotyping Services
? Pharmacogenomics markers: e.g. DMEs, APOE4, etc.
? Disease markers: genetic profiling, susceptibility testing
? Custom genotyping
SignalGene exploits a robust high throughput technology platform in a quality-controlled environment that, as of the year 2000 meets GLP/GMP standards.
Discovery Programs
Our discovery programs lead to major breakthroughs in the identification of genetic markers of disease susceptibility and response to drug therapy, and provide novel targets for new drug development.
