Biocitech Celebrates its 5th Anniversary with an
Occupancy Rate in Excess of 80 Percent The companies in the
science and technology park, which was created five years ago this month,
enjoy the synergies of the campus effect and several have decided to enlarge
their premises to further their development
Biocitech, 5 March 2008 - Biocitech, the Paris life science technology park, announces today that it has concluded two more rental agreements with Roowin and Cellectis, which will increase the total space occupied to 22,400 sq m, more than 80 percent of the area currently available. This record occupancy rate is a sign of the health and viability of the park, as Biocitech prepares to celebrate its fifth anniversary this month. Roowin, a specialty chemicals company, was the first firm to move into the park five years ago, when it employed only a handful of people. It will soon have a workforce of 40 and has now increased the size of its premises to 2,000 sq m to speed up its development. "It was quite natural for us to decide to expand our presence in Biocitech, since we want to continue to benefit from the park's high-quality facilities and the campus effect, with this research atmosphere that suits us," observed Patrice Rool, the Chairman of Roowin. And he added: "Roowin has been installed in Biocitech since the park's beginnings and we can now gauge just how far it has come, given the success of the campus and the companies located here." Cellectis, the rational genome engineering company, has signed a new lease increasing the space rented in the Fleming building for its laboratories and offices to 2,500 sq m. "We are about to celebrate Biocitech's fifth anniversary, and are well aware that the decisions taken by these resident firms to move into new premises suited to their development are important steps for them," said Jacques Lhomel, the Director of Biocitech. "For Biocitech, it is also a major event, since it confirms the park's proof of concept and its viability after only five years' activity. We are already preparing further developments made possible by the huge amount of space in reserve to accommodate other firms that would like to take advantage of the 'Biocitech effect'." There are now 21 companies installed in Biocitech employing some 500 people, and the park anticipates double-digit growth in 2008 thanks to the campus effect and the synergies it generates.
