Capsulution NanoScience AG
Starts New Feasibility Studies
Increased interest from
leading drug manufacturers in novel drug delivery systems
Berlin (October 11, 2005) – Berlin-based Capsulution NanoScience AG has
commenced two feasibility studies in the area of pharmaceutical formulation
(drug delivery) that have been commissioned by two renowned industrial clients.
Using the proprietary LBL-Technology, both studies aim at increasing the
bioavailability of several new chemical entities (NCEs) in the human body.
Particularly the transport of water insoluble compounds like a wide range of
drug candidates in the development pipelines of pharmaceutical companies will be
optimized during the studies.
“We are receiving a great deal of interest from drug manufacturers in our
patented technology,” said Maria González Ferreiro, Director Business
Development of Capsulution NanoScience AG. “Both studies are aimed at close
adaptations of our patented LBL-Technology® to the requirements of the
pharmaceutical industry.”
Proprietary LBL Technology®
Capsulution develops innovative drug delivery solutions for pharmaceutically
active compounds. Wrapped in tiny nano-capsules they will be delivered safely
with high effectiveness to the desired location of action in the human body.
Capsulution’s products are based around the proprietary LBL-Technology®
(Layer-By-Layer) – a method of producing polymeric nano-capsules. The
encapsulation system is highly versatile. Various polymers can be applied to
encapsulate pharmaceutical as well as other chemical compounds. Additionally,
the exterior of the capsule may be functionalised through the addition of
targeting molecules such as monoclonal antibodies.
Broad field of applications
Capsulution’s LBL-Technology® platform will soon be used for a wide range of
applications. LBL-Solv is a means of drug reformulation, where water insoluble
active compounds are nanoencapsulated to increase their bioavailability. In
addition, LBL-Intra is an application specific to intracellular drug delivery.
The capsules may also be applied to improve the function of drug-releasing
implants. Capsulution is also working on the development and expansion of its
nano-diagnostics capabilities.
About Capsulution NanoScience AG:
Capsulution NanoScience AG develops innovative nano- and micron-sized capsules.
The company applies its worldwide-patented so-called LBL-Technology®. Based on
their minute size, their functionality and their highly reproducible production
process the capsules can be used for a multitude of different applications.
Accordingly, the precisely sized capsules (500 nm to 50 µm) can be made to
function in a manner to suit the intended application, and can be given the
appropriate biochemical, electrical, optical and magnetic properties as required
by the customer. The capsules can be applied for the delivery of drugs, in
cosmetic products, and in diagnostics. Today, the Berlin-based company has 16
highly qualified employees. Amongst Capsulution's clients and partners are key
industry players such as Bayer AG, Gelita, SCA Hygiene Products, Cognis,
OctoPlus and other non-disclosed companies.
