Dow Appoints Pharma Marketing and Education Veteran, Michael S. Altmann, Business Communications/Brand Manager for DowpharmaSM


MIDLAND, Mich. – Oct. 30, 2006 – The Dow Chemical Company announced today that Michael S. Altmann has been named business communications/brand manager for DowpharmaSM contract manufacturing services, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company. In this role, Altmann will be responsible for creating and implementing the marketing communications strategy to advance the reputation and brand of Dowpharma. He will be based in Bound Brook, N.J., where Dow maintains a subsidiary site of Union Carbide Corporation.

“Michael brings more than 30 years of global pharmaceutical marketing experience in a broad range of products and therapeutic categories with a proven ability to launch and re-launch products into the market,” said Nick Hyde, Dowpharma business director. “His professional credentials, keen strategic sense and deep understanding of the pharma business make him a valuable addition to our team and to our partners.”

Altmann joins Dow from MDG Development Group, a medical education company in Chester, N.J., where he served as executive vice president overseeing client services, business development and compliance. Prior to that appointment, he was executive vice president and director of Adult Education at Commonhealth: Health Learning Systems & The Conectics Group in Parsippany, N.J.

He also held executive positions with companies such as BESTMED, a Saatchi & Saatchi Healthcare Resources Group Company, PEERMED, a EURO RSCG Company, HealthVision and PRO/COM. His clients included Genzyme, Sanofi-Aventis, Pfizer, Serono/Pfizer and Roche, among others.



Altmann has a bachelor’s degree in biology (with a minor in chemistry) from Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, extensive graduate education in reproduction anatomy and physiology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University and a master of arts degree in adult education – distance learning from the University of Phoenix. He is a member of several medical and scientific societies including the Alliance for CME, Global Alliance for Medical Education, American Gastroenterological Association, American Academy of Sleep Medicine, American Association for the Study of Liver Disease, and the New York Academy of Sciences.
