Novel, fully integrated Sample Dispersion Unit is key to Morphologi G3
particle characterization speed and repeatability
3 March 2008: Malvern, UK: A key feature of the new Morphologi G3 automated
particle characterization system from Malvern Instruments is a novel, fully
integrated Sample Dispersion Unit (SDU). Morphologi G3 provides microscope
quality images and delivers statistically significant data through the rapid
analysis of hundreds of thousands of particles, with little or no user
intervention, giving information on both particle size and shape. The
software-controlled dry powder dispersion system reduces sample preparation
times, significantly improves repeatability of measurements and offers safer
handling of hazardous substances.
Reliable particle characterization of dry powders requires strict control of
dispersion conditions. Using the Morphologi G3, sample is dispersed with an
instantaneous pulse of compressed air. Precise control of dispersion pressure,
injection time and settling time ensures highly reproducible measurements across
a broad range of samples.
Measurements are made in an enclosed sample carrier, minimizing environmental
exposure and ensuring safer material handling, especially when measuring
pharmaceutical actives or toxic materials. Multiple aliquots can be prepared in
advance, ready to use at the next measurement.

markets advanced analytical systems used in characterizing a wide variety of
materials, from bulk powders to the latest nanomaterials and delicate
macromolecules. Innovative technologies and powerful software produce systems
that deliver industrially relevant data enabling customers to make the
connection between micro (eg particle size) and macro (bulk) material properties
(rheology) and chemical composition (chemical imaging). Malvern laboratory,
on-line and in-line solutions are proven in sectors from cement to
pharmaceuticals and support the understanding, improvement and optimization of
many industrial processes.
Headquartered in Malvern, UK, the company has subsidiary organizations in all
major European markets, North America, China, Korea and Japan, key partnerships
