MedicWave launches Proteinmarker Detection
SoftwareTM (PDSTM) 2.0, the state of the art software for proteomic data
analysis
March 2007. MedicWave launches the software, Proteinmarker Detection
Software™ 2.0, an analysis tool specialized in high dimensional proteomic data
analysis, especially peak extraction, fast multi-spectra segregation, and
multiple protein-pattern detection.
This next generation data analysis software, adds significant additional
capability in terms of unique peak extraction algorithms and effective data
mining methods for rapid comparison between different biomarker groups.
The software detects and identifies relevant protein-markers and patterns in
high dimensional proteomic data using a numerous set of extensive
cross-validation procedures, built on many measurements with true statistical
differences between the groups.
The PDSTM is entirely automatic and requires minimal supervision. Extensive
cross-validation procedures are performed to prevent data from over-fitting. The
validation-set is also carefully kept outside the training procedure throughout
the whole process. Results are therefore unaffected by human interaction and
kept as unbiased as possible.

NOTES TO EDITORS: About proteomic data analysis
The central importance of proteomics lies in the fact that proteins are the
molecules that carry out virtually all biological processes. To understand any
biological phenomenon, the role proteins play must therefore be understood. Not
only are proteins axiomatic to the life of
the healthy cell, but they are central to disease and its treatment too. Nearly
all drug targets are proteins, and most drugs work by correcting the protein
abnormalities that cause disease.
The analysis and interpretation of the volumes of proteomic data often remains a
bioinformatics challenge, despite the advances in proteomic data analysis and
data mining technology today. It is a burdensome data analysis process that
takes time and there is often a need to inspect individual protein spectra
visually and laboriously in order to verify that spectral peaks identified are
real.
Advances in information technology bring powerful computational capabilities to
laboratories, which allow storage and analysis of very large information sets.
Bio-computing is therefore gradually becoming one of the most important features
in laboratories.
For scientists and researchers of today, bio-computing becomes more and more of
a hot topic. In a market where the cycle of biomarker-research and discovery
must be fast and reliable in order for the biotech companies to be able to
compete and to survive, the time-tomarket for drugs and diagnostic tools must be
shortened.
New high throughput technologies like DNA sequencers, Micro Arrays, Mass
Spectrometry and Protein Arrays have dramatically accelerated the process of
collecting biological data and shifted the bottleneck in the drug discovery
process from the lack of biological data to analysis of this overflow of
biological data. Few approaches have however been reported for the data analysis
problems specifically targeted on SELDI-TOF mass spectrometry data.

About Medicwave
MedicWave is a software company that develops cutting edge bioinformatics
tools in close collaboration with strategic partners both within academia and
pharma / biotech. MedicWave is engaged in the business of Bioinformatics
software / Life Science Informatics with focus upon Proteomics.
Advances in information technology bring powerful computational capabilities to
laboratories, which allow storage and analysis of very large information sets.
Biocomputing is therefore gradually becoming one of the most important features

MedicWave's first product, the Proteinmarker Detection SoftwareTM (PDSTM), was
developed for analysing high dimensional proteomic data. Module 1 for PDSTM
detects peaks in proteomic data and the module is now available for download
with the PDSTM 2.0 software.
