Pharmaterials receives Queens Award for Enterprise
April 21 2008: Pharmaterials, a contract drug
preformulation and development company, has been awarded the Queens Award for
Enterprise for International Trade.
Pharmaterials won the Award for increasing its International Trade by over 270
percent in three years, and now partners with over 80 companies in 16 countries
worldwide. Its clients range from major multi national pharmaceutical companies
to biotech start-ups.
Pharmaterials capabilities include state of the art polymorphism screening and
advanced physical testing. It also has a well established formulation group
providing solutions for the delivery of poorly soluble drug substances, such as
through oral and intravenous delivery, and for inhalation.
Professor Graham Buckton, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Pharmaterials
and Professor of Pharmaceutics at the London School of Pharmacy, said:
“Pharmaterials strong science base, coupled with the excellent work of the staff
has been enormously important in winning this Award. Pharmaterials philosophy is
that we do not just make measurements, we provide a true understanding of our
client’s challenges, and that is why we have seen such success.”
Mark Hooper, Pharmaterials Director of Business Development added: “In a
competitive business market the success seen by Pharmaterials is due to the
quality of the work that the staff provide. Communication with customers is key
and we pride ourselves in doing this well.”
PII , the US based formulation and contract manufacturing organisation, acquired
a controlling stake in Pharmaterials in January 2008, giving the ability to take
a new chemical from early phase physico-chemical testing through to formulation,
clinical trials supply and even commercial manufacture, providing the basis for
further strong growth for Pharmaterials in the coming years.
Pharmaterials had its first year of trading in 2001, being formed as a spin out
of the School of Pharmacy, University of London. The Company was formed on the
platform of pharmaceutical materials science for which the London School of
Pharmacy has an outstanding international reputation.
