Sigma-Aldrich Launches First
Commercially Available Proteomics Standard |
ST. LOUIS, MO, 31st October 2006 - Sigma-Aldrich (NASDAQ: SIAL), a
$1.7 billion Life Science and High Technology company, announced the release of
the Universal Proteomics Standard during the HUPO Protein Test Sample Standards/NIST
Workshop, an educational session prior to the HUPO 5th Annual World Congress.
The standard, a complex mixture of 48 human proteins, was developed in close
collaboration with the ABRF Proteomics Standards Research Group (sPRG). The
Universal Proteomics Standard is expected to enable researchers to better assess
proteomics strategies, troubleshoot protocols and normalize results from day to
day and lab to lab.
The protein mixture was evaluated by more than 100 independent proteomics
laboratories worldwide in an independent study to assess the analytical
capabilities of participants and compare the strengths of various analytical
strategies. Results of the study were presented in February 2006 at the annual
meeting of the ABRF. Responding to the need of the Proteomics community for a
complex reference standard and anticipating the utility of this particular
mixture following completion of the study, Sigma-Aldrich is proud to launch the
first commercially available standard for Proteomics researchers worldwide.
"The Universal Proteomics Standard brings a much needed resource to the
Proteomics community," said Dale Peluso, Sigma-Aldrich's Market Segment Manager
for Quantitative Proteomics. "It was a privilege to work with the ABRF sPRG in
the development of this important research tool, and we look forward to future
opportunities to work with other groups on projects such as this."
